Some excerps from article in USAW Wrestler magazine by Gary Abbott
"It all started for Zeigler back in California at the age of 18. She was a high school cheerleader and didn't cpmsoder herself much of an athlete. Her wrestler boyfriend heard about a women's wrestling event in San Francisco and encouraged her to give it a try. 'I dated the star high school wrestler' she said ' He thought it would be cute if I wrestled in the tournament...so I went to San Francisco State, showed up and got my butt kicked' she said"
"She was the only American at 44kg and because this tournament was the qualifier for the first US Women's World Team, she was invited to be on the American team going to Switzerland. This was a great experience for Ziegler and she met many female wrestlers who she considers friends to this day.
When she returned to the US, Marie dedicated herself to the sport and competed on for 7 years on the Sr. level. She won a pair of silver medals in 1990 and 1991 and was a member of 5 world teams."
In 2015, Marie received a Facebook message that UWW was going to have a Womens Veterans division for the first time. This was another opportunity for Marie to pave the way for women in our sport and a change to compete again. Not to mention a trip to Greece. Marie came home from Greece with the first UWW Gold in Veterans Womens Freestyle.
Marie joined us for camp last year and shared some very inspiring words with the campers.
We are very excited that Marie is coming back to share with you, more ofher talents, and are looking forward to a great camp.
Please join us in welcoming Marie to PWC girls camp for a second year.
